| About Our Troop...
|
Troop 6 is one of the larger troops
in Louisiana Purchase Council. We continue to take pride and
carry out those traditions that were started many years ago by former Scouts
who walked before us; but we also continue to set new traditions that we hope
will make each Scouts experience with Troop 6 that much more memorable.

Our troop, Troop 6 of Louisiana
Purchase Council, was founded 50 years ago in Alexandria, LA.
Chartered by St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, the troop began with only 12
boys and 2 adults and met in a small building on the church grounds.
Troop 6 has grown rapidly from its
original 12 boys, and has developed a rich heritage full of inspiring
tradition, unforgettable memories, and Scout Spirit.
One of these inspiring traditions
began in 1972 with the inauguration of the Troop 6 motto, Optimus Optimorum . The
two words come from a Latin translation for the English phrase "The Best of the
Best." The motto has since served as a challenge to all Troop 6 Scouts to
strive to be "the best of the best" in all that he sets out to do. We are
constantly reminded of this challenge each time we see another troop member,
for the motto appears in the middle of a large six stitched in pure white
against a solid red background on a patch worn on the Troop 6 cap.
In 1992, Troop 6 under the leadership of
its Troop
Committee began the planning and fundraising stages for a new Scout
Hut. After designing a 3,000 square foot building, soliciting the
appropriate licenses, and raising over $40,000, Troop 6 broke ground on the
Scout Hut in February of 1993. After two years of planning and a year of
construction performed mostly by Scouts, Scouters, and other troop supporters,
the Troop 6 Scout Hut was dedicated in February of 1994.
